Is Engineering Management Right for You?

Our Engineering Management program is open to candidates who are interested in developing business skills while further developing technical and engineering skills. We offer a 21-month program that includes a 12-month Co-Op assignment or internship, as well as an accelerated 12-month program. Our programs are attractive to engineers who want a master's degree but prefer an alternative to traditional masters in engineering or an MBA. Individuals with academic backgrounds in non-engineering STEM disciplines are also eligible to apply, including Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and more. Contact us at purduemem@purdue.edu for more information.

This interdisciplinary Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) degree is specifically designed for recent college graduates preparing for a career in industry. Industry research shows that a third of all engineers are promoted to management positions before having the proper management skills, which puts our grads in high demand because they are prepared with the skills and experience companies need.

A key component of our Engineering Management program is our blend of business and engineering courses, providing an emphasis on systems engineering and business management. In addition to deepening students' engineering skills, we provide students with opportunities to learn, perform, and network in a business environment.

Expanding Business Skills for Engineering Industry

In response to industry research, Engineering Management begins the program with a comprehensive orientation week that emphasizes professional development. Students receive an industry partner facility tour, networking sessions, and instruction on building a job search toolkit. These kinds of experiences are attractive to industry partners, who help train our 2-year students during their Co-Op semesters off-campus, because our grads have the technical ability to solve challenging problems and the managerial skills to engage in leadership and project management.

Due to the work experience gained throughout our program, our engineering management students consistently secure competitive job offers from a variety of employers, including rapidly-growing entrepreneurial ventures and top Fortune 500 companies, prior to graduation.
