Textbooks often depict the research enterprise as occurring in a linear fashion. But when we actually conduct research, we find something very different happens. There are fits and starts and lots of soul searching. We have to find our way through an uncharted landscape. But all people see is the end product, when the research is explained in a tidy paper. What is it like to undergo the research journey?

Now in Season 5, the Engineering Education Research Briefs podcast tells the story of what researchers’ lives are really like as they cope with the dead-ends and ambiguity that inevitably come with conducting research. This seminar will share the story of the podcast, answer questions about previous episodes, and gather audience input on potential guests and directions.

Ruth A. Streveler is a Professor of Engineering Education and considered a “pioneer” in the field of engineering education research.  She is the creator and host of the Engineering Education Research Briefs podcast. Her research focuses on difficult concepts in engineering science.
