John Morgan Named Associate Head of the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND -- Professor John Morgan has accepted the role of Associate Head of the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, effective July 1, 2026.
In this expanded role, Morgan will provide additional leadership support for several key school operations, including facilities coordination, instructional planning and faculty service responsibilities. He will continue to serve as director of graduate studies, a role he has held since joining the Purdue faculty in 2000.
Morgan earned his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Kansas and his Ph.D. from Rice University, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley.
His research group studies and engineering metabolic pathways for the production of natural and new-to-nature chemicals with applications in the food, fragrance, health and fuel industries, combining molecular biology with mathematical modeling of metabolism. He holds a courtesy appointment as professor of biochemistry, is a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and a University Faculty Scholar, and delivered the AIChE Division 15a Plenary Award Lecture in 2023.
Many in the school have already worked closely with Morgan through his leadership of the graduate program, and his colleagues look forward to his continued partnership in this new capacity.
