University Faculty Scholars are a select group of mid-career faculty who are on an accelerated path for academic distinction. In the College of Engineering, faculty are nominated by committees from their academic areas and are reviewed and recommended by a subcommittee of the College’s named and distinguished professors. Mung Chiang, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering, then submits final selections for approval by the Provost. The Purdue University Faculty Scholar program was created in 1998.

“I am honored to be selected for this program and particularly thank my students, who have done wonderful and exciting research throughout the years,” said Dr. Liu. “The program funds will enable us to continue exploring new research applications, particularly in the area of biomedical adhesives.”

Dr. Liu earned her BSE from Princeton University in 2000 and her MS (2002) and PhD (2006) from the California Institute of Technology. She was a NIH Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Medical School prior to joining the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering in 2008.

Dr. Liu's research focuses on designing protein-based biomaterials for application in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, investigating material-based cues for skeletal engineering, and developing new biomaterials for use as surgical adhesives.
