Grad Student Emre Gencer Honored with Two Awards

Chemical Engineering graduate student Emre Gencer was selected as the recipient of the AIChE Process Development Student Paper Award for 2016 and as one of three recipients of 2016 Sustainable Engineering Forum Student Paper Awards through the AIChE.

Emre Gencer, a graduate student in Dr. Rakesh Agrawal's group, has been selected for two awards based on a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) in December 2015.

The paper "Round-the-Clock Power Supply and a Sustainable Economy via Synergistic Integration of Solar Thermal Power and Hydrogen Processes" details work on a new hydricity concept, solar thermal coproduction of hydrogen electricity.

The proposed concept presents a potential breakthrough solution for continuous and efficient power supply and also an exciting opportunity to envision and create a sustainable economy to meet all the human needs—namely, food, chemicals, transportation, heating, and electricity.

Gencer will receive the AIChE Process Development Student Paper Award for 2016 at the Process Development Division Dinner at the 2016 AIChE Annual Meeting. It includes a plaque, $500 and an additional amount to cover expenses associated with attending the annual meeting.

The second award, a 2016 Sustainable Engineering Forum Student Paper Award, also from AIChE, includes $500 for travel expenses and a certificate of recognition to be presented at the Sustainable Engineering Forum luncheon during the 2016 AIChE Annual National Meeting.
