Purdue Students won all the poster competitions in the two local Catalysis Clubs: Michigan Catalysis Society and Chicago Catalysis Club.

Four Purdue Engineering students (3 ChE and 1 MSE) won all the poster competitions in the two local Catalysis Clubs: Michigan Catalysis Society and Chicago Catalysis Club. The first place and only award given in Michigan was won by Shane Bates. In Chicago, the first place was won by Sara Yohe, the second place by Anuj Verma, and the third place by Cem Akatay.

Shane A. Bates, a Chemical Engineering Graduate Student since 2008, received his undergraduate degree at Penn State. He is advised by Professors Fabio H. Ribeiro and W. Nicholas Delgass. His primary research focus is the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3.   Shane attended the 33rd Michigan Catalysis Society Spring Symposium in May  2012 and won the 1st place student poster competition with his poster titled "The Redox Nature of the Cu Active Site in Cu/SSZ-13 Catalysts for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx by NH¬3. " There is one award given for a student presentation and one award for a student poster.

Sara Lynn Yohe, a Chemical Engineering Graduate Student since 2008, received her undergraduate degrees at Concordia College in Moorhead MN and the University of Minnesota. She is advised by Professors Fabio H. Ribeiro, W. Nicholas Delgass, and Rakesh Agrawal. Her primary research focus is catalytic hydrodeoxygenation of lignin.
Sara attended the Chicago Catalysis Club Spring Symposium at B.P. Research Center in Naperville, IL, in May 2012 and won the 1st place in student poster competition with her poster titled "High Pressure Hydrodeoxygenation Reaction Pathways for Dihydroeugenol over Pt/ZrO2 and Ru/ZrO2 Catalysts." There are 3 student poster awards at the Chicago Catalysis Club. This year 3 posters out of a total of 30 student posters and 44 overall posters were chosen for the award.

Anuj Verma, a Chemical Engineering Graduate Student since 2010, received his undergraduate degree at Institute of Chemical Technology (Formerly UDCT), in Mumbai. He is advised by Professors Fabio H. Ribeiro and W. Nicholas Delgass. His primary research focus is the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3.
Anuj attended the Chicago Catalysis Club Spring Symposium at B.P. Research Center in Naperville, IL, in May 2012 and won the 2nd place in the Student Poster Competition with his poster titled "Steady State Kinetics of NO oxidation on Cu-ZSM5."

Cem Akatay, a Materials Engineering Graduate Student since 2009, received his undergraduate degree at Sabanci University, Istanbul. He is advised by Professors Fabio H. Ribeiro and Eric Stach (MSE). His primary research focus is in-situ characterization of catalysts via Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Photoelectron Spectroscopy.
Cem attended the Chicago Catalysis Club Spring Symposium at B.P. Research Center in Naperville, IL, in May 2012 and won the 3rd place in the Student Poster Competition with his poster titled "Millitorr Pressure Photoelectron Spectroscopy of non-porous Pt/TiO2/Al2O3 and Pt/Fe/Al2O3 catalyst for Water-Gas Shift reaction."
