Professor A. Varma Named Fellow of the Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society

The Industrial & Engineering Chemistry (IEC) Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has named Arvind Varma, R. Games Slayter Distinguished Professor and Head, School of Chemical Engineering, as a Fellow of the Division.

This is in recognition of his research which impacts both chemistry and chemical engineering, and is the fifth year that the award has been made by the IEC Division. Two Fellows, one chemist and one chemical engineer, are named at each Spring ACS meeting.  The award will be presented at the Spring 2011 national meeting, at a half-day symposium organized in Varma’s honor.

Founded in 1876, with more than 161,000 members, ACS is the world’s largest scientific society.  Its current President is Dr. Joseph S. Francisco, the William E. Moore Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Purdue University. Founded in 1908, IEC Division is the oldest Division of ACS.
