“Some Innovations in the Biological Treatment of Polluted Air”
Biological treatment of polluted air has emerged as a viable alternative for airstreams containing low concentrations of organic and inorganic gaseous compounds. In this talk, the basis and the main bottlenecks of the technology will be presented as an introduction to innovations that have been explored to improve performance and widen the applications. These innovations include, among others, the use of fungi, of extremophiles and of multiple phase reactors.
Dr. Sergio Revah is a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Process and Technology in the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana campus Cuajimalpa in Mexico. He is a Chemical Engineer from UNAM, Mexico, M.Sc. in Food Science from U. C. - Davis and Ph. D. in Bioprocesses from the U. Technologie Compiégne, France in 1986. He has published more than 150 papers and book chapters in the bioengineering field, obtained 5 patents and directed more than 45 graduate students. His field is in environmental bioprocesses mainly working with biological air treatment. He has won several awards including National Science Award in the field of Technology in 2010.
