Ayhan Irfanoglu, Professor and Associate Head of the Lyles School of Civil Engineering, will be surveying the impact of the recent earthquake in Turkey this week with an advance reconnaissance team dispatched jointly by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance Association (GEER). The team will survey earthquake impacts on the ground to capture ephemeral data and inform future Learning From Earthquakes (LFE) reconnaissance efforts.

“Our mission will be to assess the quake’s damage in preparation for a more extensive trip in March,” says Irfanoglu, who has conducted field research following several earthquakes in his home country of Turkey since 1999.
