Shivam Tripathi, a Ph.D. student in the Hydraulics and Hydrology group, was recognized with a Best Challenge Paper Award (paper co-authored with advisor Rao S. Govindaraju) at the Third International Workshop on Knowledge Discovery from Sensor Data (SensorKDD-2009) on June 28, 2009, in Paris, France. This award was presented for development of algorithms that combine hidden Markov models and Markov random fields to conduct regionalization of Indian rainfall and for subsequent investigation of change detection in rainfall and temperature patterns over the region.
The award was sponsored by the Computational Sciences and Engineering Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
