Prof. Connor receives transportation innovation award

Robert J. Connor
Prof. Robert Connor has been honored by the Alberta Transportation Department with the Alberta Transportation Innovation Award.

Professor Robert Connor has been awarded Alberta Transportation Innovation Award by the Alberta Transportation Department on March 19, 2012. Dr. Connor worked with Engineers from the consulting firm of AECOM to develop and implement repairs to prevent Constraint Induced Fracture (CIF) on the Red Deer River Bridge carrying Canada highway #2 (the Queen Elizabeth Highway) near Red Deer, Alberta. CIF failures pose a risk to public safety and the economy in that they can cause the failure of steel girder bridges suddenly and without any advanced warning. The award is presented in order recognize innovative people in the transportation industry who have demonstrated excellence in technical or process innovation focusing on safety, roads and bridges. This is the second time Dr. Connor has received the Albert Transportation Innovation Award.
