Hazem Usama Abdelhady awarded 2023 IAGLR Scholarship

Ph.D. candidate Hazem Usama Abdelhady is the winner of the 2023 International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) Scholarship for his dissertation research on Great Lakes shoreline changes in response to rapid water level fluctuation.

Ph.D. candidate Hazem Usama Abdelhady is the winner of the 2023 International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) Scholarship for his dissertation research on Great Lakes shoreline changes in response to rapid water level fluctuation. The IAGLR Scholarship is awarded annually to promising Ph.D. students whose dissertation research is likely to make a significant contribution to the understanding of large lakes. The award consists of a U.S. $2,000 scholarship and a one-year membership in IAGLR.

Before coming to Purdue, Hazem received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Cairo University, where he conducted pioneering research on environmentally-friendly damless hydropower. He has developed cutting-edge models to monitor and model shoreline changes in the Great Lakes from high-resolution multispectral satellite images. Hazem is committed to using his research to make a positive impact on the environment and society.
