Associate Professor Samuel Labi has been selected by the Transportation and Development Institute to receive the 2014 Frank M. Masters Award for his outstanding and innovative work in advancing the area of transportation infrastructure asset management systems.

Patricia Galloway (BSCE '78) has more than three decades of experience with offering senior management strategic advice and consulting to identify and manage risk, assess projects, project trends and maximize a company's performance. She is currently president and CEO Pegasus Global Holdings Inc. in Cle Elum, Wash., where she is responsible for the firm’s management consulting and services.

Assistant professor Pablo Zavattieri is part of a research team exploring the strength of cellulose nanocrystals and their potential applications in products such as construction materials and automotive components.

Professors Thanos Tzempelikos, Panagiota Karava and Jim Braun from CE, together with Prof. Patricia Davies (ME) and Prof. Robert Proctor (PSYCH) formed a Purdue team that received one of the six grants awarded from the new Pillars of Sustainable Education program.

Purdue researchers and ITaP are embarking on a $4.5 million, four-year project to create a powerful Web-based system that will allow researchers worldwide to manage, curate, share, analyze and visualize geospatial data for purposes ranging from predicting damaging floods to projecting climate change effects on the poor.

Larry Nies and Fred Mannering have been selected to be inducted into The Book of Great Teachers. The induction ceremony is planned for December 2, 2013 from 3:30-6:15 p.m. in the South Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union.

Charles Ellis, a Purdue University civil engineering professor long overlooked for his role in the Golden Gate Bridge project, has been honored with a plaque to be displayed in Hampton Hall.

Growing up along the banks of Indiana's Wildcat Creek fostered an early appreciation for conservation in Lindsey Payne and a lifelong attraction to water that she still doesn't quite understand. As a PhD student, her research focuses on urban water projects and training engineering students in the collaborative design process. In the community, she is a champion for the environment — from leading efforts to clean up the Wabash River to helping local businesses go green.

From relationships to bridges, Kevin McKeon moves the world forward with what he builds. As a head facilitator at the Boiler Challenge Course for the Division of Recreational Sports, he transforms groups into teams. As a resident assistant in Cary Quadrangle, he molds the character of first-year students. And as a civil engineering major, he creates the structures that will sustain our future.

An art exhibition featuring Aldo Giorgini, past professor in the School of Civil Engineering as well as pioneer in computer artistry, will be in Pao Hall in the East Rueff Gallery through Nov. 8.

The School of Civil Engineering will be hosting an alumni breakfast in conjunction with the Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference at 7:00am on Wednesday, October 23rd.

On September 27th the Board of Trustees ratified the appointment of Dr. W. Jason Weiss as the Jack and Kay Hockema Professor of Civil Engineering.

On October 10th, 2013, Purdue Civil Engineering alumni met for a reception in conjunction with ASCE's 143rd Annual Civil Engineering Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Prof. Jan Olek has been named the first ACPA Scholar in Concrete Pavement and Materials Science effective August 12, 2013. The ACPA Scholar is a two-year appointment funded by the American Concrete Pavement Association.
