CE Alumnus receives honorary degree

Robert L. Bowen, BSCE 1962, founder and owner of Bowen Engineering Corp., a multi-market company specializing in water and wastewater treatment plants and energy utility construction, received his honorary doctoral degree at the 2007 spring commencement.

Purdue finished fifth and sixth in concrete canoe races

The Purdue University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) sponsored the 2007 Great Lakes Regional Conference. The concrete canoe races is one of many events held during this conference.

Graduate student selected for 'Eno Fellows' Class of 2007

Sarah M. Hubbard, graduate student, was recently selected by the Eno Transportation Foundation for the ‘Eno Fellows’ Class of 2007, a group of exceptionally promising graduate and doctoral students who plan to pursue careers in transportation. Eno Fellows are invited to participate in the Foundation’s Leadership Development Conference (LDC), an intensive week-long professional development program held each spring in Washington, D.C.

W. David Bevirt, Jr., MSCE '85, has been appointed as the current President for CarrAmerica in Leasing. CarrAmerica owns, develops and operates office properties in 12 markets throughout the United States.

Professors receive Talbert Abrams Grand Award

Associate Professor Jie Shan, Associate Professor James S. Bethel, Professor Edward M. Mikhail, Chiumng-Shiuan Fu, Bin Li, and Jeffrey Kretsch received Talbert Abrams Grand Award for their journal paper, entitled "Principles and Evaluation of Autostereoscopic Photogrammetric Measurement."

A team of six traveled to India on a World Bank mission to review and make recommendations for the planning, design and construction aspects of national highway development program in India.

Strengthening the soil will decrease earthquake damage

An interdisciplinary group of researchers at Purdue University have found that adding small quantities of bentonite to fine sands reduces the risk of liquefaction. This NSF collaborative research project includes Purdue Civil Engineering Professors Antonio Bobet, Vincent P. Drnevich and Marika C. Santagata, Professor Cliff T. Johnston, Agronomy, and Professor Alexander Wei, Chemistry.

Professor C. Douglas Sutton has been awarded the Purdue College of Engineering Faculty Advising Excellence Award for his impact of nurturing students to successful professional careers with especially cogent personal and academic advising.
