Augie Ziccarelli (BSCNE 1981), Project Director at Pepper Construction of Indiana, has received the 2024 Construction Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award.
Augie Ziccarelli began his career as an intern serving three summers with the Eichleay Corporation, an industrial contractor located in Chicago and Pittsburgh. After graduation, in 1981, he joined Eichleay. Over the course of 43 years, he has worked for five different firms including his current employer, Pepper Construction. His work has taken him throughout the United States including projects in Spokane, Washington; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Louisville, Kentucky; and suburban Detroit, Michigan.
For ten years (2005-2015) Augie exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit and was an equity partner in his construction firm, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. In Lake Forest, he was viewed as a respected construction professional and served as an Owner's Representative for new school construction and renovations. He has served as the lead on a wide variety of projects including a lakefront city park, a local community center, a new youth center, an historic farmstead, and multiple projects for the parish of St. Mary’s. As a contractor, he managed the construction of the Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake, Illinois which was awarded the first Gold-Certified LEED school certification in the state of Illinois.
Augie served as a volunteer on building committees for a new catholic primary grade center and a $50 million renovation to Lake Forest High School, where his children attended. He also served on the City of Lake Forest Planning Commission.
In 2015, Roberta and Augie moved to Fishers, Indiana and he accepted the position of Senior Project Manager with Pepper Construction. Since that time, he has been promoted to Project Executive and his current position as Project Director. Recent projects include the construction of the Purdue Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, renovations to the Mechanical Engineering Building, the Lily Science Building, the Birck Nanotechnology Center and two new aeronautical hypersonic testing facilities located in the Purdue Research District. Currently, he is the Project Director for the Daniels School of Business which, upon its groundbreaking in the fall of 2024, will be the largest project on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.
Augie has served on the Industry Advisory Board for the Division of Construction Engineering and Management since 2007, has been an adjunct lecturer for various construction management-related classes and conducted site visits of his campus projects with students and faculty. For thirty years, Augie and Roberta have been John Purdue Club members and on select Saturdays in the fall, you can find them at Ross-Ade Stadium, likely with hoarse voices.
