Luna Lu, Purdue's Reilly Professor of Civil Engineering, has led development of a sensor technology that has been recognized as a gold winner of an Edison Award in the Critical Human Infrastructure category. The Edison Awards, considered the "Oscars of innovation," are given annually to "recognize the persistence and excellence that also characterized Thomas Edison's work."

Antonio Bobet, the Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Professor of Civil Engineering, has been selected to join the Fulbright Specialist Program. Established in 2001 by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), the program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise and strengthen institutional linkages.

Robert J. Connor, Jack and Kay Hockema Professor of Civil Engineering, received the Walter P. Moore, Jr. Award, presented by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Dr. Makarand (Mark) Hastak, Ph.D., P.E., CCP, CRIS, FASCE, NAC, the Dernlan Family Head of Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) and Professor of Civil Engineering, has been named a fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Board of Directors.

CE grad student Deepak Benny received honorable mention for best student paper at the 65th international meeting of the Transportation Research Forum conference.

Heidi Shyu, undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, paid a recent visit to Purdue and the Robert L. and Terry L. Bowen Laboratory for Large-Scale Civil Engineering Research. Director Amit Varma led Shyu on a tour to see the national security work with military construction applications.

Kelly Powers Baria (BSCE 1998), Vice President of Powers & Sons Construction Company, joins a panel of women leaders in construction for a digital roundtable to discuss her background and experience in the industry.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Friday (April 5) ratified a plan to merge the Lyles School of Civil Engineering and the Division of Construction Engineering and Management. The change will be effective July 1, 2024, when the school’s name will be changed to the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering.

At the “Crossroads of America,” Purdue engineers and the Indiana Department of Transportation are working to make it possible for electric vehicles ranging from tractor-trailers to passenger cars to wirelessly charge while driving on highways. Construction begins as soon as April 1 on a quarter-mile test bed on U.S. 231/U.S. 52 in West Lafayette that the team will use for testing how well a patent-pending system designed by Purdue engineers can provide power to a heavy-duty electric truck traveling at highway speeds.

Dulcy Abraham, Professor of Civil Engineering, is the inaugural recipient of the ASCE Construction Institute Advancement of Women in Construction Award for excellence as a construction academic in the areas of teaching, research, and service, and demonstrated support, guidance, mentoring, and promotion of growth opportunities for the advancement of women in the construction profession.

CE alumnus Ersal Ozdemir (BSCE 1997, CEAAA 2022), President & CEO of Keystone Group and the Indy Eleven, presented at the CE Executive Forum on Wednesday, March 20th. Ersal shared his career journeys, discussing both successes and setbacks, and offered valuable guidance on achieving personal and professional goals.
