Purdue University’s Transportation & Autonomous Systems Institute (TASI) has been selected to receive the 2025 Institutional Lead Award from the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS).

INDIANAPOLIS (July 22, 2020) – Toyota and Hebei Pride today announced a new license agreement to commercialize standardized safety testing systems for the development and validation of automotive automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems. The agreement is the first license from Toyota IP Solutions, which launched in late 2019 to broaden access to Toyota’s world leading patent portfolio.

Car manufacturers are already adding automated features to their high-end models, but when will driverless cars become common? Whether it's years or decades, the safety measures for these cars are being developed and improved daily in the labs of Yaobin Chen, professor of electrical and computer engineering.

INDIANAPOLIS (June 20, 2017) - IUPUI's Transportation Active Safety Institute, or TASI, has worked with Toyota's Collaborative Safety Research Center on advanced test targets for bicyclist pre-collision systems. Its next project will explore driving features called "road-departure detection and control."

INDIANAPOLIS (March 30, 2015) - Steve is a moving dummy (also known as a mannequin) that stands in for a pedestrian crossing a road. Mannequins like Steve – which come in adult and child sizes – mimic different walking speeds and angles to allow for realistic testing situations.

This technology was developed through a partnership of Toyota’s Collaborative Safety Research Center, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Ohio State University. The study used data from volunteers of all shapes and sizes—including children— to develop a groundbreaking pedestrian mannequin – “Steve” – that is contributing unique technologies for future safety testing. INDIANAPOLIS (August 13, 2017) – The future of self-driving vehicles is in full swing. Indianapolis may be a key player when it comes to developing the future technology. IUPUI has partnered with Toyota to work on a road departure test and method development project. They are one of eight universities across the country at work on 11 different projects. Inside IUPUI’s Transportation Active Safety Institute, or TASI for short, students and researchers are able to use a simulator to test various scenarios.
