Us News & World Report ranking, Japan-U.S. Seminar on Two-Phase Flow Dynamics, 2015 Seed for Success Award, and PIRE student workshop

US News & World Report ranks Purdue Nuclear Engineering #10

Congratulations to the School of Nuclear Engineering, faculty, staff, and graduate students for the recognition of program excellence! The Graduate Program in the School of Nuclear Engineering at Purdue moved up in the rankings from #12 to #10 for 2017 according to US News & World Report. These rankings are peer rankings, making them particularly exciting. We thank our faculty, our staff, and our students for continuing to pursue excellence.

Japan-U.S. Seminar on Two-Phase Flow Dynamics

The Japan-U.S. Seminar on Two-Phase Flow Dynamics was held at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, May 10-15, 2015. The Seminar has been held approximately every four years, since its inception in Kansai, Japan - 1979, alternating between Japan and the U.S.

The objective of the Japan-U.S. Seminar on Two-Phase Flow Dynamics is to bring together senior and junior researchers from these two countries to have in-depth discussions on multiphase flow research. The timing of the Seminar was very important, because we are finally approaching the development of truly mechanistic two-phase flow models that are comparable to those available for single phase flow. This is made possible by the development of fine local measurement methods, detailed dynamic modeling of interfacial structures and interfacial transfers and the advancement of CFD. This Seminar was organized by Professor Mamoru Ishii, USA, organizer, Professor Martin Bertodano and Japan organizer Professor Yutaka Abe.

2015 Seed for Success Award

Dr. Lefteri Tsoukalas and Dr. Chan Choi received the 2015 Seed for Success Award for a large project from National Nuclear Security Administration, Proposal for a Consortium for Nonproliferation-Enabling Capabilities, $1,587,000.

PIRE Student Workshop

In May 2015 Purdue hosted a successful PIRE student workshop to allow students from all our international partner institutions and US collaborators an opportunity to meet each other and forge new collaborations. Dr. Ahmed Hassanein, Dr. Audeen Fentiman and Dr. Sivanandan Harilal received the 2013 Seed for Success Award for a large project from the National Science Foundation, PIRE: Nuclear Energy Systems and Materials under Extreme Conditions, $3,916,844.
