While it is fun just to put gears together and see them spin, the kit includes many activities where the user can learn the fundamentals of working with gears and where they are implemented. There is an experiment in the instructions walking users through making a gearbox that demonstrates how small and large gears can combine to change the speed and axis of rotation, concepts many individuals do not learn until high school. It prompts children to question where gears are used, how to configure them in the given space, and how to incorporate them into designs. It is a great way to get a head start on learning important STEM topics. - D. C. Coble, Purdue Reviewer
