Faculty and Students Published in Nature Communications
A recent publication by Assistant Professor Yu She, James H. and Barbara H. Greene Professor, Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering,
Juan Wachs, and students Zhixian Hu and Yi Royce Cheng introduces a new bio-inspired robotic manipulator designed to handle fragile organisms and delicate objects safely.

According to Wachs, this vibrissae-inspired system utilizes an actively controlled whisker array to sense and interact with its environment, providing a gentler and safer approach to working with specimens such as mollusks and other sensitive species.
The approach provides a promising new tool for biological experimentation and for tasks where traditional robotic manipulators risk causing harm.
