Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering Celebrates Excellence at Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet

The Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering celebrated student achievement, faculty excellence, and staff dedication during its annual Scholarship Awards Banquet, held in early October. The event brought together students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the school to honor the individuals whose hard work and generosity continue to strengthen the Purdue IE community.

This year, the school awarded 115 undergraduate scholarships and 23 graduate fellowships and scholarships, recognizing outstanding academic performance, leadership, research, and service. These awards reflect the continued commitment of donors and alumni who help make transformative educational opportunities possible for the next generation of Boilermaker engineers.

In addition to student awards, several members of the Edwardson School community were honored for their exceptional contributions:

Brandon Pitts, Elliott Sigal Rising Star Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering, received the James H. Greene Graduate Educator Award in Industrial Engineering, recognizing excellence in graduate mentorship and teaching.

Mario Ventresca, Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering, earned the A. Alan Pritsker Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, presented annually to an instructor who demonstrates exceptional dedication to undergraduate education.

The Outstanding Staff Award resulted tie for the second consecutive year, honoring Zoie Dahnke, Morgan Kuryla, and Elizabeth Pearson for their tireless support of the school's mission and daily operations.

Senior Industrial Engineering student Allie Biewenga provided an address to her fellow students that provided a glimpse of how things have gone during her time here, and optimism toward the future.

"As I look forward to the next steps in my life, I am still working out where I want to end up, but the possibilities are endless. I know with my Purdue IE degree that I can do anything I want to whether that’s manufacturing cars, optimizing roller coaster lines, or consulting for financial companies. While I am sad to be leaving Purdue at the end of this year, I am excited about all the opportunities I will have and things I can do as a Purdue IE."

The annual scholarship awards banquet is an evening that both celebrates excellence and reinforces the enduring network of support that drives innovation and impact across the Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering, Including students like Emilynn Johns. Johns is a senior from Noblesville, Indiana. In addition to her degree in Industrial Engineering, Emilynn is pursuing a minor in Computer Science and a certificate in Applications in Data Science. Alongside her coursework, she serves as a teaching assistant for an introductory computer science course for engineers. She is also the Director of Member Development for the Purdue Student Engineering Foundation, where she helps to foster personal and professional growth while promoting Purdue and Industrial Engineering to prospective high school students.

Over the past 3 years, Emilynn has received 6 scholarships from the Purdue University Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering. These scholarships have had a tremendous impact on her Purdue experience by alleviating financial burdens and allowing her to fully dedicate herself to academic, professional, and leadership opportunities. She is deeply grateful for the support of Purdue’s Industrial Engineering community and its donors, whose generosity has empowered her to grow as both an engineer and a leader.
