Pitts and Wu Invited to U.S.-Africa Frontiers of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Symposium

Brandon Pitts, Elliott Sigal Rising Star Associate Professor and Wenzhuo Wu, Professor of Industrial Engineering have been invited to the prestigious 3rd annual symposium, which brings together outstanding scientists from the two continents to share and discuss their work.

The third symposium will be hosted by, and in partnership with, the Republic of Rwanda on February 18-20, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda. Highly accomplished emerging leaders in science, engineering or medicine from industry, academia, public service, non-profit and other sectors from African Union member countries and the United States will meet for an intensive symposium on developments at the cutting edge of a broad range of multi-disciplinary topics through five plenary sessions.

  • Session II "Biotechnology"
  • Session III "Precision Agriculture"
  • Session IV "Advances in Space Research"
  • Session V "Smart and Connected Cities"

Wu and Pitts will share their expertise in various research topics and discuss projects in their research programs related to nanomanufacturing for health and sustainability and human-AI collaboration in transportation, work, and leisure environments, respectively. 
 
According to the National Academies website, to be eligible for selection to this symposium, one must be an emerging leader in science, engineering or medicine and have demonstrated accomplishment in their field, among other criteria. Roughly 30-40 applicants from the U.S. are selected to attend.
