Lecturer

Job Summary

The School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for a Lecturer position in Industrial Engineering. This position is non-faculty rank, full-time, academic year (9 month, with opportunity for summer teaching appointment), staff teaching position with continuing appointment beginning in August 2023.

The position includes the following duties:

  • Teaching within the School of Industrial Engineering and Integrated Business and Engineering programs primarily at the undergraduate level, with a focus on probability, statistics, and applied analytics. In addition, teaching will include providing instructional support to experiential learning courses by directly teaching and mentoring multi-disciplinary student design teams.
  • Teaching load is 18 credits per year.
  • The individual will be assigned as the instructor-of-record for the courses taught and have autonomy to develop and deliver course content as appropriate (including: development of appropriate syllabi, assessment methods, grading and grade reporting, office hours, etc.)
  • Collaboration with other faculty (i.e., course coordinators) will be expected to ensure consistency across sections and semesters.
  • Hold all classes in accord with the university academic calendars, and be flexible in course assignments and teaching times according to program needs.
  • Assist with other duties related to teaching and mentoring students, as needed.

Education

Candidates for the position must have completed a M.S. in Industrial Engineering or closely related field (Ph.D. preferred) by the position start date. Evidence of teaching effectiveness is preferred. In addition, successful candidates will have demonstrated skills in innovative pedagogical techniques, project/problem-based learning, and multi-disciplinary design process mentoring.

Assistant or Associate Professor

Job Summary

The School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Purdue University seeks to attract exceptional candidates with interests and expertise in the following two broad areas:

  1. operations research methodology intersecting with reinforcement learning, machine learning, statistical and/or computational aspects of data science, and parallel/distributed computing;
  2. theory and applications of interdependent complex systems, including critical infrastructures, cyber-physical systems, innovation ecosystems, service operations systems and network science.

 

Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering, operations research, other engineering discipline, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline and demonstrate potential to build an independent research program, as well as potential to educate and mentor students. The successful candidates will conduct original research, advise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and perform service at the School, College, and University levels.
