In Memoriam: Marc Williams

Marc Williams; 1959-2022
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Marc Williams, Senior Laboratory Coordinator for IE since 2014.

Marc E. Williams, 62 of rural Frankfort, died March 21, 2022 at I.U. Arnett Hospital, Lafayette.  He was born May 3, 1959 in Frankfort, Ind. to Fred & Jacquelyn Ann (Pletch) Williams.

Marc was a 1977 graduate of Frankfort High School and lived most of his live in Clinton County.  He was currently working at Purdue University as a Senior Lab Coordinator for the School of Industrial Engineering, had worked for Tate & Lyle in Lafayette as a Reliability Engineer, Mallory’s/Emerson Controls in Frankfort and was owner/operator of E & W Tool & Die. He had formerly attended the Antioch Church.  Marc enjoyed model rocketry, canoeing, woodworking, sailing & fishing.

He is survived by his mother, Jacquelyn A. Williams of Frankfort, Sister: Andrea (Dwight) Slipher of Frankfort, Special Friends: Heather & Kacey Joines of Kokomo. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, Michael in 1954.

Of the memories shared, his colleagues in Industrial Engineering remember that he was "a character" with a really good heart. His sense of humor was unique and kept you on your toes. He was one to jump in whenever help was needed for alumni tours. He mastered the unimaginable feat of moving out of Michael Golden Labs after nearly 100 years and setting up in Potter over winter break. He told stories, steeped in his dry wit, from the side of his mouth with a smart grin. These would evoke a smile... or a snort. His students ALL got their work completed. Always.

One colleague says, "I am sure going to miss the sound of [Marc's] keys coming around the corner followed by a 'Hey kiddo, how's life'?" Another colleague states, "Marc was kind, quiet, had a good sense of humor, and was very willing to help people". He was a good soul and will be dearly missed.

paulinhomesarosMarc was an excellent instructor. Prayers for his family.
aspassiiaaMarc was one of the most helpful instructors! He was witty but so very all knowing when it came to manufacturing. I cannot share enough how much it meant to have him as an instructor being one of the only females in the IE470 lab. He always made sure I got to get a first try at the machines and really brought to life my love for manufacturing. No matter how busy he was, he would always spare time to go over anything you needed help with or even just to talk about the machines that were in the lab. Sending thoughts and prayers to his family, this is a huge loss to the IE family and he will be greatly missed.
c_sawickyMarc was so good at explaining things. I will always remember his safety talks and funny phrases like “machine chatter.” I learned so much in his lab. Rest In Peace.
iamvanshtHe was the most amazing teacher ever, had a chance to take some of his labs for 370 this semester. May he Rest In Peace
