Weiler Earns Golf Regional Appearance

Joe Weiler, IE senior, swings into NCAA golf regionals.

Purdue golfers Joe Weiler and Cole Bradley were selected to the NCAA Men's Golf Regional Championships, announced this afternoon by the NCAA and the Golf Channel.

The duo will be sent to the Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana, as part of 13 teams and 10 individuals looking to advance to the NCAA National Championships held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, beginning in late May. The top individual not on an advancing team will advance to the National Championships. NCAA Regionals will be held May 17 to 19.

The Boilermakers were not selected as a team, ending a run of six straight NCAA Regional berths, the second-longest streak in school history. Purdue only played seven events this season, all coming during the spring, hurting the Boilermakers' chances.

A second-team All-Big Ten selection, Weiler will see NCAA competition for the second time in his career after helping Purdue qualify as a team in 2019. He finished tied for second at last weekend's Big Ten Championships, Purdue's highest finish since Pariya Junhasavasdikul won medalist honors in 2007, and has three top-5 finishes in seven events this spring. Weiler leads the team with a 72.33 stroke average and now owns the fourth- and fifth-lowest stroke averages in school history (4th in 2020 – 72.05). In addition to his Big Ten runner-up finish, he placed tied for fourth at both the Timuquana Collegiate and the Boilermaker Invitational.

Over his last two seasons, he has seven top-10 finishes in 14 events. He currently ranks sixth on the school's career stroke average list (73.52).

Also a second-team All-Big Ten honoree, Bradley will also appear in his second NCAA Regional. He ranked second on the team with a 73.05 stroke average and recorded three top-20 showings, including a top-20 finish at last weekend's Big Ten Championships. He was 10th at the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay and owns nine career top-20 showings, the team leader.
