IE welcomes new faculty

This fall, three new professors joined the School of Industrial Engineering. We sat down for a Q&A to get to know them.

 

Ana María Estrada Gómez, Assistant Professor

Where were you before arriving at Purdue?

Georgia Institute of Technology

What are your teaching interests?

At the undergraduate level, I am interested in teaching probability and statistical courses. At the graduate level, I would like to teach courses such as industrial applications of statistics, predictive modeling, and mathematics of data science. I am also highly interested in developing and teaching new graduate courses associated with my research, such as high-dimensional data analytics or probabilistic graphical models. 

What are your research interests?

My research interests revolve around developing efficient methodologies and algorithms for modeling, monitoring, and diagnosing complex systems with high-dimensional streaming data, using statistical machine learning tools. 

Why did you choose Purdue? 

Purdue is one of the best universities in the United States. I am sure I will be able to grow as a researcher, mentor, and teacher while contributing to society at this amazing institution. 

 

Ben Fong, Associate Professor of Practice

Where were you before arriving at Purdue?

I graduated with my MSME and PhD in ISE from Virginia Tech. I have 27 years of industrial experience in global product strategic leadership, IoT product R&D engineering, manufacturing operations, and Lean Six Sigma enterprise transformation from Caterpillar, GE Healthcare, Rockwell Automation, Pentair and other Fortune 500 companies.

What are your teaching interests?

I am interested to teach the Professional Master's Program Capstone Project and Professional Development courses.

What are your research interests? 

My research interests include IoT connectivity, smart factory, cyber physical systems, big data analytics, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Yu She, Assistant Professor

Where were you before arriving at Purdue?

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

What are your teaching interests?

I am interested to teach robotics, design, kinematics, and dynamics.

What are your research interests? 

My research interests include robotics, mechanism design, and tactile perception.
