Academic All-Big Ten Boilermakers include 2 Purdue IEs

Purdue Athletics had 70 spring sport student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten honors on May 28 as announced by the conference office, including two Purdue IE undergraduates.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be members of a 2019 spring sport, be enrolled full-time for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

With 140 Academic All-Big Ten honorees announced previously, the Boilermakers' 2018-19 total ends at 210 student-athletes receiving academic distinction from the conference office. All eight spring sports were represented, led by women's track & field with 21 honorees. Men's track & field (14), baseball (8), men's golf (7), softball (7), women's golf (5), women's tennis (5), and men's tennis (3) rounded out the list. The men's golf team had every eligible member of its squad earn a spot on the team.
 
The conference office will present the Distinguished Scholar Award in July. Students eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be a recipient of Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year (excluding any summer grades). The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by conference faculty representatives as an addition to the conference's Academic All-Big Ten program.
