Simulation Modeling with SIMIO:
A Workbook
Purdue IE will offer a new “Introduction to Simulation” (IE 48100) course starting in the spring of 2018.

Developed by Associate Professor Hong Wan, it will be a hands-on course on computer simulation for analytics in business, services and manufacturing applications that are subject to uncertainty or risk.

Wan wanted to develop the course because, although simulation is one of the most important tools for today's IE students, the curriculum had been missing an undergraduate-level course to teach this topic.

The course will cover general principles of spreadsheet and systems simulation, and students will learn to use @Risk and Simio software for class projects. They will develop complex simulation models, design a simulation experiment to be run on the model, analyze and interpret the results, and study project management. The class will use Simulation Modeling with SIMIO: A Workbook (4th Edition), by Jeffrey Allen Joines and Stephen Dean Roberts of North Carolina State University.
