Despite a high temperature of 91°F and the Boilermakers losing 28-10 to the Michigan Wolverines, Purdue IE celebrated Homecoming 2017 in style with two special events: an alumni-student panel discussion and an outdoor barbecue.

The morning of September 23, seven Purdue IE alumni and one current undergraduate student participated in a panel discussion titled "IE = CEO: Dynamic Careers in Industrial Engineering". The panelists have worked in such diverse fields as healthcare, insurance, higher education, consulting, and the military. They answered questions about why they chose to study industrial engineering, how they have used their IE degree during their careers, and what they think IEs will do in the future.

The panelists were:

  • Bob Nommensen (BSIE '83), Managing Director of Milliman IntelliScript
  • Juan Diego Velasquez (BSIE '98, MSIE '03, PhD '09), Managing Director of Purdue Engineering Strategic Initiatives
  • Carlos Moreno (BSIE '94), Procurement Director of Kimberly-Clark’s Latin American Operations
  • Mike Heard (BSIE '89), President of Washington National Insurance Company
  • Steve Dumbauld (BSIE '72), Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (retired)
  • Shari Eberhard (BSIE '16), Eli Lilly Supply Chain
  • Raghav Ghandi (BSIE '17), Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers
  • Michael Bailey, a current IE junior

The discussion took place in Purdue’s newly-completed Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC).

After the panel discussion, Purdue IE held a Homecoming Barbecue at de Bedout Piazza behind Grissom Hall. About 100 IE alumni, faculty, staff, and friends and family enjoyed Crabby Mike’s BBQ before the Purdue football game later that afternoon.
