IE Team Led by Dr. Steven Landry wins 1st place in airport design competition

Chittayong (Jao) and Caitlin Surakitbanharn, students of Dr. Steven J. Landry, have been awarded 1st Place in the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) University Design Competition for Addressing Airport Needs for their innovative design for Airport Management and Planning. The program is sponsored by the National Academies through the Transportation Research Board (TRB).

Their submission, Funding Essential Air Service to Small Community Airports through Data Driven Decisions, is a novel approach in applying data to the policy design of funding commercial flights to small airports in the US.  The team will be awarded a $2,500 cash prize as well as the opportunity to present their work to airport industry stakeholders at the National Academies in Washington, DC on July 17th.

Caitlin, Jao, and Dr. Landry are all certified pilots with a desire to improve the future of commercial and general aviation.  Through this recognition, the team hopes their work can be used by policy makers to make better decisions about the future of aviation to small communities.
