Bopaya Bidanda is currently the Ernest E. Roth Professor and Chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He has previously served as the President of the Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads (CIEADH) also on the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.  Prof. Bidanda has a secondary appointment as Professor of Business Administration at the Katz Graduate School of Business and also as a Visiting Professor & Fellow of the EU Center for Rapid &  Sustainable Product Development at the Instituo Politechnico de Leiria, Portugal.

 

His research focuses on manufacturing systems with emphasis on Reverese Engineering, Product Development, and Manufacturing Modernization, Group Technology, Global Supply Networks, Lean Manufacturing, Human issues in manufacturing.

 

At Pitt, he has helped found the Manufacturing Assistance Center, the Automated Data Collection Laboratory, and more recently the Swanson Center for New Product Innovation.

 

Prof. Bidanda has received funding for his research from a variety of federal and state sources and from multiple foundations including the W.M. Keck Foundation and the Kresge Foundation.   Dr. Bidanda is also an IIE Fellow and an ABET accreditation visitor.  In 2004, he was appointed a Fulbright Senior Specialist by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the U.S. Department of State.

 

He has industrial experience in aerospace manufacturing, precision manufacturing and tooling accrued before graduate study.  He has co-published four books with Mc Graw Hill and Springer in addition to over 100 papers in international journals and conference proceedings.  He has also given invited and keynote talks in Asia, South America, Africa and Europe.
