Why I chose Purdue Civil Engineering
Purdue University has always been my dream school. In addition to growing up in a Purdue family with my dad being an alumnus, I have always had a strong interest in both engineering and the environment — and the Lyles School of Civil Engineering is known to be a great place to study both of these areas.
Emphasis area
My emphasis area is in Environmental Engineering. Growing up, I spent a lot of time outdoors and I developed a great appreciation for nature and preserving the environment. I also loved building things, so that’s why I wanted to study how to be able to create communities and structures that would be in tune with the environment and preserve our natural surroundings.
Jason's EPICS project was constructing a park in Lafayette — which he says was an amazing experience where he and his team worked with the community and helped create something that was truly impactful.
Park design through EPICS
One of the most impactful moments while at Purdue is definitely my time with the university’s EPICS Program. EPICS is a service-learning design program in which teams of students partner with local and global community organizations to address human, community, and environmental needs. My EPICS team worked on developing and constructing a park in Lafayette and it was an amazing experience where we worked with the community and helped create something that was truly impactful.
After I graduate
After I graduate, I will return to Purdue in the fall to pursue a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Environmental Engineering. I am greatly interested in the development of communities and historical redevelopment. I believe gaining a greater understanding through my pursuit of a graduate degree will aid me in those goals.
