Jumpstarting Your Career: The Role of Professional Organizations

Most graduate students are aware of the value of attending a professional conference and presenting a paper.  There is, however, a substantial behind-the-scenes infrastructure in professional societies that provides students with numerous opportunities to network with potential collaborators, employers, sponsors, and references.  This presentation will describe those opportunities and provide some tips on how to make the most of them.

Audeen Fentiman is the Associate Dean of Engineering for Graduate Education and Interdisciplinary Programs.  She is a Professor of Engineering Education and holds courtesy appointments in Nuclear Engineering and Environmental and Ecological Engineering.  Dr. Fentiman has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Nuclear Society (twice) and chaired several national committees of the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Nuclear Society.  She is a fellow of the American Nuclear Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was an 2010-2011 American Council on Education Fellow.
