Tucked inside you skull you carry a three-pound organ that some have called the most complex machine in the universe.

Neuroscience research continues to unlock some of the mysteries of the magnificent human brain. This seminar will explore three questions that have important implications for how we learn and teach engineering:

  • Why is it misleading to talk about “the brain”?
  • How are memories formed?
  • What is the role of emotion in learning?

Ruth. A. Streveler is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering Education at Purdue University. For the past decade, her research has primarily focused on difficult concepts in engineering science with special interest on why some concepts are so difficult to learn, and on using concept inventories to measure conceptual understanding. Recently, her fascination with the brain has blossomed into a full-blown passion.
