3D Printing Club

Purdue’s 3D Printing Club (3DPC) is a newer organization, founded in 2013, that provides its members and the Purdue community access to advanced printing technology with 3D printing and design experience.

The club operates its lab located in the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering, B098.  The dedicated space and full-service support enables students to create, build, and brainstorm unique, creative ideas. 3DPC also offers CAD design classes and 3D printing expertise with printer support on more than twenty printers for student academic or personal use.

The 3DPC student supervisors helped create a Purdue Day of Giving relic as part of a video competition featuring the song, "Hail, Purdue!"

The club’s supervisor is Rick Womack, the Logistics Coordinator for the First-Year Engineering Instructional Support Team in the School of Engineering Education. Rick, along with Alex Warner, a senior in computer engineering and head of the club since his freshman year in 2015, oversees more than 15 student volunteer lab supervisors and teaching assistants.

What makes the lab unique is that it is fully self-sustaining by the student-owned, operated, and organized club. 3DPC typically has around 160 club members in an academic year and continues to grow. The club collaborates with other organizations such as the Purdue Chapter of College Mentors for Kids, Engineering Education’s First-Year Engineering Program, and Algebra Before 7th Grade (Ab7G) Program.

At the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, 3DPC was granted $15,000 from Purdue’s Student Fee Advisory Board. Warner stated how the club’s success has allowed 3DPC to advance and use this funding to purchase new printers, resin, filament, and other consumables. In addition to the lab’s previous donated and purchased equipment, they now operate five Form 2 printers and 15 FFF (fused filament fabrication) printers. As a reminder, these are available for all Purdue students to use and experience!
