Pre-Medical Engineering Studies
Pre-Medical Engineering Studies encompass preparation for many pre-professional, advanced-degree programs including, but not limited to, the study of the law, medicine, physical therapy, optometry, veterinary medicine, and chiropractic medicine. A healthcare-focused concentration takes students beyond a typical pre-med, pre-vet plan of study as they utilize engineering competencies to understand the mechanics and processes of the musculoskeletal system.
Potential graduate studies and coursework:
| Student Interest | Potential Curricula |
|---|---|
| Medicine (Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, MD or DO) | Engineering, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and courses geared toward Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) prep |
| Optometry (Doctor of Optometry, OD) | Engineering, general healthcare, laser processing, design of advanced optic systems, chemistry/biochemistry, physical or occupational therapy, and sports medicine |
| Physical Therapy (Doctor of Physical Therapy, DPT). | Engineering, anatomy, physiology, and athletic training |
| Law (Juris Doctorate, JD) | Engineering, case law, preparing legal briefs, advising clients/companies on the legality of pertinent issues, trial litigation and contract/licensing negotiations, and intellectual property |
| Veterinary Medicine (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, DVM) | Engineering, wildlife conservation and management, animal husbandry, zookeeping, evolutionary studies, animal protection, general healthcare, chemistry/biochemistry, and pharmaceuticals |
| Chiropractic Care (Doctor of Chiropractic) | Engineering, physiology, and anatomy |
Students who forego graduate studies may work in industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, pharmacology, chemical processing, genetics, biology, optics and electronics, wellness, physical/occupational therapy, sports medicine and athletics.
