Plans of Study

Our curriculum moves beyond the walls of the lab and classroom.

Our curriculum cuts across traditional engineering boundaries and provides students with a well-rounded, multidisciplinary education that develops versatile and diverse construction engineers.

The industry needs engineering students to expand their views and start thinking on a global scale.

We’ve revolutionized the CEM curriculum to prepare construction engineers for the demands of designing and building in global and fast-changing environments—including utilizing the latest cutting-edge tools in engineering like 3D printing and augmented reality.

Today’s engineers must have skills to manage people in addition to the ability to design and manage projects.

    • Construction Engineering80%
    • Management Courses20%

This is why the CEM curriculum is around 80% construction engineering and 20% management courses and why our classes are taught by industry experts who bring their own real-world experiences to the classroom.

Every undergraduate must complete three internships, gaining valuable field experience in their areas of interest. Beyond internship opportunities, CEM makes learning interactive for students with programs like EPICS, study abroad, cooperative education, and research experiences.

    Core Curriculum

In the CEM program, you’ll experience a healthy amount of math and mechanical principles—plus, you can gain experience in specialties including environmental engineering, electrical engineering, and building information modeling.

The Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS)

This program matches undergraduates with local community service organizations in order to define, design, build, test, deploy, and support projects for organizations in need.

    Co-Op Programs

Students also gain real-world experiences in our co-op programs. The Summer Undergraduate Research (SURF) program is open to undergraduates looking to spend their summers working alongside professors in labs and in the field.
