Why I chose Purdue Civil Engineering

I've had an interest in civil engineering since around seventh grade when I was introduced to it through Project Lead The Way — a national program that helps introduce student to the wide variety of STEM courses and careers. From then on, I knew I wanted to pursue a civil engineering major — and I knew Purdue University was one of the best places in the world to achieve that.

Emphasis area

My emphasis area is in Hydraulics. I had a broad interest in civil engineering when I came to Purdue, but after I learned more about the specialty area, the more it appealed to me. The aspects of water quality and storm water management especially appealed to me. They — and water in general — are so vital to this planet and it’s something I want to help preserve.

Color guard

In addition to my interest in engineering, another big appeal in coming to Purdue was its color guard. I was a part of my color guard group in high school and I wanted to continue that in college. It has been a great experience here for me. I’ve made so many friends and have so many great memories.

After I graduate

After I graduate, I plan on entering the career field. I’ve already received a number of job offers early into my senior year and I feel like this is the best path for me. Purdue Civil Engineering has prepared me well through what I learned in class and in the SURF Program.
