Why I chose Purdue Civil Engineering

I’ve always had an interest in engineering and building design, so I knew I wanted to go somewhere that could best prepare me for that. I also wanted to attend college somewhere in state, if possible. Thankfully, Purdue University offered exactly what I was looking for: an in-state option with one of the best civil engineering programs in the country.

Emphasis area

My emphasis area is in Structures. I have a strong interest in designing and developing largescale buildings like high-rises. I’m not sure I would say I have a “dream project” in mind, but I definitely want to work with a company that designs and develops high-rises so that I can be part of those projects one day.

Since her freshman year, Delaney has been an intern at several civil engineering companies. All of her opportunities, she said, were came through careers fairs held at Purdue.

Internship experiences

Through different career fairs here at Purdue, I have been able to secure a number of internships while at college. Every summer since my freshman year I have had the opportunity to work with — and learn from — civil engineering companies. My experiences have been wonderful and they have really confirmed for me that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life — and all these opportunities were so much easier to achieve thanks to Purdue, its career fairs, and encouragement to pursue internships.

After I graduate

Next year, I will be leaving with both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in civil engineering through Purdue’s 4+1 program. It’s been a great opportunity for to expand my education and prepare me for the career field I want to enter.
