Scott E. Rouse

As a child, Scott Rouse loved art and math. He was also intrigued with drawing three-point perspective sketches of imaginary city skylines. Raised in Lafayette in the shadow of Purdue, his fate was sealed in ninth grade, when he selected civil engineering as the topic for a paper on potential careers.

After completing his bachelor's degree at Purdue, Rouse stayed on for graduate studies. He worked as a graduate assistant and at a local PayLess supermarket, where he met his wife, Dottie. In 1981, Rouse took a job with Duke Power Company in Charlotte, N.C. His first assignment was to complete a seismic analysis for a proposed radiation waste treatment facility. After four years in the utility industry, work began to slow and Rouse yearned to design the types of buildings in the imaginary cities he had sketched as a child.

In 1985, Rouse followed his childhood design interests and joined the architectural firm of J.N. Pease Associates in Charlotte. Among his assignments was the structural design of the City Government Center, a 14-story triangular-shaped building. He returned to Indiana in 1991 to work for Fink Roberts & Petrie, where he now serves as vice president. He has managed several challenging projects including Circle Centre, Victory Field, Conseco Fieldhouse, the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Airport Terminal, the Indiana Convention Center and Purdue's France A. Córdova Student Recreation Center.

The Rouses have a daughter, Alex, who is a 2012 Purdue grad and lives in San Jose, Calif., where she works for AmeriCorps. Their son, Jake, is a 2011 Indiana University grad, who works in tech support for the Active Network. He lives in Indianapolis.
