Kyubyung Kang receives Fall 2017 Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Kyubyung Kang, a member in Dr. Makarand Hastak's research team in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering, has been named as recipient of the Fall 2017 Outstanding Graduate Student Award. This top honor recognizes one CE graduate student for outstanding service to the Purdue University and to the community, service character, organizational involvements, as well as technical and academic achievements through research, teaching, scientific publications and technical awards.

Kyubyung Kang, a member in Dr. Makarand Hastak's research team in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering, has been named as recipient of the Fall 2017 Outstanding Graduate Student Award.

This top honor recognizes one CE graduate student for outstanding service to the Purdue University and to the community, service character, organizational involvements, as well as technical and academic achievements through research, teaching, scientific publications and technical awards.

Kyubyung's current research interests fall into four categories - disaster risk reduction and mitigation strategies development in terms of interdependent infrastructures; construction engineering education with respect to industrial partnerships; infrastructure planning and maintenance for composite pavements; and public-private partnership for higher education institutions.

Kyubyung also focuses especially on ways he can contribute back to the communities and organizations that he belongs to by providing services and knowledge as much as he can. He has been trained as an emergency management volunteer to become a part of a squad in the Tippecanoe County Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) since 2017. He was also elected Civil Engineering Senator to the Purdue Graduate Student Senate for the academic year 2016-17.
