Mady Seif says she chose civil engineering for its mix of science and artistry.

Why I chose Purdue Civil Engineering

Math and science have always been really appealing to me, so I knew early on that whatever I chose to study in college had to feature those. As I learned more about the engineering disciplines, I found myself especially drawn to civil engineering because not only did it have what I wanted to study, plus it has a bit of an artistic quality to it.

Emphasis area

My emphasis area is in structures. I like the idea of being part of a team, working on a big project, and then one day being able to drive by and see a largescale structure that I was a part of. Also, I believe that with structures I can help build and shape future communities for the better.

Mady said she loves the mix of academic and social opportunities offered at Purdue.

Boiler Gold Rush veteran

Something that I have been a part of for two years now and am passionate about is Boiler Gold Rush. Boiler Gold Rush is the weeklong orientation event for incoming freshmen, and it helps them meet new people, make friends, and gets them acquainted to college life at Purdue. It’s been such a rewarding experience to work with the new Boilermakers and making their first college life experience a positive one.

After I graduate

After I earn my Bachelor’s degree next year, I will be staying for one more to earn my Master’s through Purdue Civil Engineering’s 4+1 Program. I believe the additional experience — both in study and research — will help further propel me forward once I enter the professional field
