Prof. Pablo Zavattieri has been elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The Fellow grade of membership recognizes exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession and to ASME, and is a distinction given to less than 5 percent of all ASME members.

Dr. Zavattieri is the Jerry M. and Lynda T. Engelhardt Professor in Civil Engineering at Purdue University. His current research lies at the interface between solid mechanics, modeling and materials engineering. He has recently focused on how the combination of materials and architecture lead to new emergent materials behavior through counterintuitive mechanisms and clever geometries. Dr. Zavattieri received this recognition for his pioneering contributions to the area of mechanics applied to advanced materials, including biological, bioinspired and architected materials, which has impacted the fields of solid mechanics and civil materials engineering.  Zavattieri received his BS/MS degrees from the Balseiro Institute and PhD from Purdue University. Before he joined Purdue University, he worked at the General Motors Research and Development Center for 9 years, where he led research activities in the general areas of computational solid mechanics, smart and biomimetic materials.
