Kike Garzon-Sabogal wins poster competition at 5th International Symposium on Geomechanics
PhD student Kike Garzon-Sabogal tied for first place from a field of approximately 70 entries in the poster competition at the 5th International Symposium on Geomechanics from Micro to Macro held September 23-27 in Grenoble, France. IS-Grenoble 2024 is the fifth quadrennial international symposium organized under the auspices of Technical Committee 105 (Geomechanics from Micro to Macro) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
Kike's poster, titled Stiffness and damping of non-homogeneous engineered particles, presents work exploring the contributions to stiffness and damping of a granular assembly that arise from non-homogeneity in the mechanical characteristics of the grains themselves. The research is being supervised by Marika Santagata, Professor of Civil Engineering. Other co-authors of the poster (and associated paper) are co-PIs Joe Sinfield (Professor of Civil Engineering and Director, Institute for Innovation Science) and Mirian Velay (Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, Bowen Scholar of Excellence, and Associate Director of Pankow Lab), along with undergraduate student Claire Middendorf.
