Hunsoo Song places first in GIS Cup
PhD Student Hunsoo Song won 1st place in the GIS Cup of the 30th ACM SIGSPATIAL. This year's GIS Cup awards the person who developed the most accurate algorithm for 3D building mapping using airborne LiDAR data.
Hunsoo joined Purdue University as a PhD Student in 2020. He is working with Prof. Jinha Jung at the Geospatial Data Science Laboratory. His doctoral work is related to large-area 3D urban mapping that will enable city-scale digital twin simulations. He hopes to contribute to the transition from conventional 2D maps to 3D maps using remote sensing technology. The 3D map, in conjunction with a digital twin, will be of great help in solving numerous problems for sustainable development.
He is currently producing 3D urban maps for major US cities. The generated 3D urban maps will be publicly released to help many urban studies.
