Mark Donahue (BSCNE 1994), Senior Vice President at Mortenson, has received the 2023 Construction Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award.

Mark left his native Indiana after graduating from Purdue University in 1994, moving to Minnesota to begin his career with Mortenson. He has a deep appreciation for nature and the environment, which has guided him in his professional endeavors.

Early in his career with Mortenson, Mark led teams through the selection, preconstruction, and construction phases for projects ranging from hospitals to semiconductor fabrication facilities to renewable energy facilities. Included with normal construction responsibilities, he leveraged his commitment to growing and coaching diversified teams within the company. His supervision and support helped Mortenson’s teams meet owners’ expectations and moved team members through practical problem-solving at each step.

As the importance of renewable energy grew, Mark helped guide Mortenson into new markets including solar, power delivery, energy storage, engineering, EV infrastructure, and, most recently, hydrogen. With much of Mark’s effort, Mortenson has become recognized as a top builder in the U.S. for wind, solar, energy storage, and power delivery.

Mark now serves as Senior Vice President at Mortenson, continuing to focus on the company’s renewable energies growth plan from a highly strategic perspective. He believes the greatest opportunity for the industry lies in where the next generation will take it. Mark’s years of knowledge, experience, mentorship, support, and passion for this industry demonstrate what the standard for leadership should look like.

Mark has been recognized by Building Design + Construction Magazine and Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal as a “40 Under 40.” Mark is an active member and serves on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Purdue University’s Construction Engineering and Management Advisory Board. In his personal time, Mark enjoys spending time with family, volunteering, fishing, and hiking.
