John Marino named VP of "X" Train

John Marino (MS '63), former president of Rail America, has been named VP of Rail Operations for Las Vegas Railway Express.

LAS VEGAS RAILWAY EXPRESS INC ("XTRN-L") - 'X' Train Appoints John Marino as VP Rail Operations Las Vegas Railway Express, Inc. ("X" Train), is pleased to announce the appointment of John Marino, former President of Rail America, as its Vice President of Rail Operations. The move is another step in a series of corporate actions which brings to the forefront the business focus of the company to provide passenger rail service between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Mr. Marino has a 30 year career in the railroad industry.

Mr. Marino has joined the company as Vice President - Rail Operations where he will be responsible for the Company's efforts with the Class 1 railroads, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (AMTRAK), railcar procurement, and rail-set maintenance. Mr. Marino currently serves as President of Transportation Management Services, Inc., a position he has held since 1983 and as Vice President - Strategic Planning for Patriot Rail. From April 1992 until July 1996, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Rail America, a publicly traded company and the largest short line railroad company in the United States. Mr. Marino co-founded Huron & Eastern Railway Company, Inc., a subsidiary of Rail America, and from 1986 until April 1996, served as its President and Director.

Mr. Marino has served as a Director of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, and as an appointed member of the Railroad-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council of the Surface Transportation Board, U.S. Department of Transportation. He is a member of the National Defense Transportation Association. He previously was employed by the Reading Railroad, A.T. Kearney, Seatrain Steamship Lines and the U.S. Railway Association, where he was the Chief of Operations Planning.

Mr. Marino received his B.S. degree in civil engineering from Princeton University in 1961 and his M.S. degree in transportation engineering from Purdue University in 1963. From 1963 to 1968, he served as an officer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
