Two new PhD students join DCSL.
Kavindu Herath joins us after getting a Bachelors degree from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. After graduating, he served as a Teaching Assistant (TA) in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the same university. He achieved consistently a top-10 ranking in the country in IEEEXtreme coding competition during his undergraduate period. During his TA days, he served in the organizing committee of ACES Coders 10 in 2023, the largest competitive programming competition in Sri Lanka. Kavindu will be working on security of distributed ML.
Xinyu Zhang joins us after getting an MS from New York University and a Bachelors from Hunan University in China. Her Bachelors thesis was on “Secure and Efficient Data-Sharing Method based on Outsourced Attribute-Based Encryption”. She has already published a paper “On the Effectiveness of Large Language Models for GitHub Workflows”. She twice won the Master Scholarship of New York University and twice won the First-Class Merit Scholarship of Hunan University. Xinyu will be co-supervised with Aravind and will work on using LLM agents for improving security of software.
