Course Description:

Conduct accessibility and usability research and analyze research data to make web-based tools, specifically CATME, more accessible. In this VIP project, the team is expected to learn about accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0), human computer interaction testing procedure and the full stack used in the CATME production website. After acquiring these skills, the team will then conduct accessibility and usability research and analyze research data to develop CATME website to make it more user-friendly by doing hands-on projects.

Desired skills: web design experience, programming in multiple languages, interest in research experiences. Sophomore status or greater is required.

Grade breakdown

  1. Training Assignments – 50%
    1. There are 4 training assignments in total (some are multi-week)
    2. Not equally weighed i.e. each assignment is not worth 12.5% exactly
    3. Assignment grades are based on completion and quality of work
    4. Assignment grades are assigned on an individual basis
  2. Project – 40%
    1. Project grade is assigned based on the parameters
      1. Quality of work
      2. Quality and quantity of documentation
      3. Communication skills
      4. Team working skills
    2. These grades are assigned on both a team and an individual basis
  3. Professional Development – 10%
    1. Attend 10 professional development sessions
    2. 1% per session – this is also a requirement from ECE for the VIP class
All training assignments will be submitted in the provided Dropbox folder. Assignments will be graded within 1 week of submission and a breakdown of the grading will be provided in the same folder after grading is completed. Assignments will be open to regrading for up to 1 week after the grade breakdown is provided.
Note: All assignments other than the first one can earn extra credit due to bonus points that are assigned based on the quality of work and additional effort put in preparing the assignment
