Description:
This team is to perform research work in the laser-based manufacturing and materials processing area, such as additive manufacturing involving ceramics and/or other topic(s). The research work is to address the technical challenges in the laser-based manufacturing process(es) and improve related fundamental understandings through experimental studies, workpiece material characterizations, theoretical analysis, and/or computational modeling. One potential topic is laser-based additive manufacturing involving ceramics that have many important current and/or future potential industrial applications.
Relevant technologies: 3D printing, Additive Manufacturing, Laser-based manufacturing
Prerequisites:
Students must complete an application and be accepted before they can join this team. Interested students should contact the faculty mentor for details.
It is preferred that the students should have strong hands-on skills, material science and/or thermal backgrounds. Students will receive training on laser safety and laser operation before they do laser experiments, and hence a prerequisite skill of laser operation is NOT required.
